Kiltwalk Aberdeen 2026

Kiltwalk 2026 – Thank You! 🎉🚶‍♀️
On Sunday 7th June, Adrianne, Cathy and Anna donned their Silver City Surfers t-shirts and took part in the Aberdeen Kiltwalk Wee Wander to help raise funds for Silver City Surfers.
The weather thankfully held and spirits were high and our walkers successfully crossed the finish line, proudly collecting their medals along the way! 🏅
Originally, Fay was due to take part too, but unfortunately a family emergency meant she was unable to join the team on the day.
We’re delighted to share that, thanks to the kindness and generosity of our supporters, a fantastic £545 was raised for Silver City Surfers!
Every pound raised helps us continue providing free technology support sessions across Aberdeen, helping people build confidence with their phones, tablets, laptops and online services.
A huge thank you to everyone who donated, shared our fundraising pages, encouraged our walkers or cheered them on from afar. Your support really does make a difference.
And, of course, congratulations and thank you to Adrianne, Cathy and Anna for representing Silver City Surfers and completing the walk. We’re very proud of you all! 👏

Home Energy Scotland visit

On Monday 25th May, we were pleased to welcome Home Energy Scotland to our session at Michie’s, where they offered free advice and information on energy support, reducing household costs, and staying warm at home.

It was a great opportunity for our learners and volunteers to access helpful guidance in a relaxed and friendly setting, and we’d like to thank the team for taking the time to visit and support our community.

Can You Help?

A new Hospitality Volunteer is needed to greet our learners and serve teas and coffees at Michie’s Cafe on Union Street on Monday afternoons. Get in touch to find out more!

Information Day at Tillydrone Community Campus

Silver City Surfers were delighted to take part in the recent Information Day at Tillydrone Community Campus.
Fay, our Assistant Coordinator, enjoyed meeting visitors, sharing how our free digital sessions help people build confidence with technology, and how these sessions make everyday life easier and more connected. The event was also a fantastic opportunity to network with other local organisations and explore new ways of working together.

Visitors enjoyed a friendly atmosphere with craft stalls, children’s activities, a free lunch from Foodies Cafe, and a prize draw, while learning about many services and opportunities available in the area.

Thank you to Tillydrone Community Campus for hosting such a welcoming event and to everyone who stopped by our stall for a chat!

Empower Aberdeen

As part of Challenge Poverty Week, Silver City Surfers enjoyed a brilliant day of conversation and connection with the public at Empower Aberdeen, talking about our drop-in sessions and the support we offer. We also loved meeting and networking with the many inspiring organisations taking part, all working together for an inclusive Aberdeen.

Drop In at The Language Cafe

As part of Positive Ageing Week 2025, Silver City Surfers were delighted to join the Grampian Regional Equality Council (GREC) Language Cafe at Aberdeen Arts Centre on 2nd October. It was a lovely way to start the month – sharing conversation with people from many different backgrounds and talking about the work of Silver City Surfers in supporting older people with digital skills.

Coordinator Adrianne enjoyed meeting the group and was especially pleased to hear that some of the attendees were interested in volunteering with Silver City Surfers. The visit was a chance to celebrate community connections, raise awareness, and show how even simple acts of sharing skills can make a big difference in helping older people feel more confident online.

And it was great to see people sharing laughter, friendship, and learning English together thanks to GREC’s language cafe.

New Trustees Required

The Silver City Surfers (SCS) are currently looking to recruit new Trustees to join our Board so we can continue to ensure that no one is left behind by the advances in technology.  Specific skills are not needed, just a willingness to help our charity continue to provide a digital lifeline. Training can be provided.

Trustees are volunteers and meet once per month to make sure that the organisation is running well and that our plans are properly implemented. They form the Management Committee of the charity and have responsibility for making sure that SCS is doing what it is set up to do. We are fortunate to have amazing coordinators who are responsible for the day to day running of our sessions and recruiting and supporting our volunteers.

We are looking at future developments for the service; would you like to be part of the planning? If you are interested, please contact Louise Farmer, Chairman, at silvercitysurfers.trustees@gmail.com
